SHANGHAI, China – On the evening of September 15, a parade was held to mark the beginning of the annual Shanghai Tourism Festival on the 2.2km-long Huaihai Road. Twenty-three well-illuminated, festive floats and thirty performing teams from both China and other parts of the world served up exotic cultural performances, kick-starting a whole myriad of celebrations to start off the 22-day Festival.
This year marks the Shanghai Tourism Festival’s 23rd year, which will feature over 40 innovative activities based on four themes – Urban Classic, Healthy Life, Culinary Shanghai and Sea Sights. Activities include, among others, the Jiuzi Competition, Rugby Sevens Championship and Sailing Carnival which will be quite fun-filled and thrilling, as well as the Festive Boats Parade on Huangpu River and Shanghai International Music & Fireworks Festival which will be a feast for the senses.
Various attractive deals will be offered by tourist attractions, star-rated hotels and eating establishments across the city during the Festival. For example, from September 17 to September 23, some attractions will offer half-price admission.
The beautiful season of autumn is also the best time for appreciating sweet osmanthus flowers. Guilin Park, Shanghai Botanical Garden, Shanghai Grand View Garden and Oriental Land will permeate the city with the scents of sweet osmanthus flowers and add extra luster to the festival.
