Mallorca in summer 2020 – a paradise for motorcyclists. In addition to great bathing weather, the largest Balearic island offers many open restaurants, pool fincas and – except for the weekends – largely empty beaches for relaxing in August 2020. But one thing is particularly impressive: this year’s summer tranquillity. It can be compared to the wonderful atmosphere of a winter holiday in Mallorca, with much more pleasant temperatures.

The author’s name is Oliver Gaebe, he is a motorbike freak (with an old Africa Twin & almost as old BMW GS1100) and a travel journalist, both for several decades. Today Oliver and I have an appointment with Johannes from www.mallorquin-bikes.de for an interview.

Mallorquin bikes is famous in the whole of Spain

I’m very excited to get to know the best-known motorbike rental company in Europe. It has been owned by Anke and Johannes for many years and has the youngest, most exclusive and largest rental fleet on the island. I am very curious to learn more about Mallorca 2020 from Johannes, from the perspective of a motorbike professional who has lived and worked there for years.

Interview with Johannes, from the biggest motorbike rental on Mallorca:

1)
Oliver, travelindustry.news:

‘Hi Johannes, please describe your company and what is special about your motorbike rental business?’

Johannes:

‘Hola Oliver, we offer an all-round service like no other rental company on our island:

1. transfer service from the hotel/airport to the motorbike

2. bookings are individually customised to the biker

3. complete protective equipment

4. riding training with our rental bikes, also customised (on request), e.g. on KTM

5. enduro sport and travel enduro training at its best. Safety & Adventures customised to customer requirements.

6. travel preparation training for African tours, general preparation for ‘the adventure of a lifetime’ or even just a ‘short’ motorbike trip

7. our customers have access to over 50 motorbikes from the most popular model ranges, BMW, Honda or KTM

8. customer service and flexibility are indeed part of our company philosophy

9. a look at our guest book shows why many customers come back to us again and again and many have even become friends :)’

2)
Oliver:

‘That’s true though, Johannes. I’ve skimmed through the opinions of your customers, wow! What kind of bikes are you offering for hire this year?’

Johannes:

‘Current Love Motos from the best premium manufacturers, e.g.:

1st Honda: Africa Twin

2. BMW R 1250 GS, F 850 GS, XR models and R models (naked bikes), S models such as Sport

3. Ducati Multistrada and Scrambler.’

4. KTM 2020 Sport Enduro

Speciality:

We offer KTM Enduro Individual Training with a final tour. A mix of riding and training.

In this way, we learn safe off-road riding with a few very attractive exercises:

– Trial interludes

– Drifting: with drifts around the bends

– Rear-wheel driving and stopi

Admittedly, this is already a higher level of skill and fun!

3)
Oliver:

‘Sounds like music, hehe! What makes Mallorca and motorcycling so special this year?’

Johannes:

‘The island is irresistible for motorcycling! This summer, the level of attractiveness is even higher! Whether you’re a cruiser or an enduro enthusiast, there are dream trails and dream roads in all facets. The trails and sub-road network are incredibly varied. In 2020 in particular, Mallorca offers picture-book culture and landscapes on two wheels.

The sea always offers freshness, whether you’re riding or jumping straight in. The mountains are an adventure, on foot, but especially on a motorbike. There is always a marvellous blue sea somewhere in the background, breathtakingly beautiful. Many of our customers come again and again to ride along coastal roads (up to 200 metres above sea level!). The play of colours is as much an experience as the surroundings. Mallorca allows drivers to feel inner freedom and peace, with the island dancing around with all our senses, like the wind over the waves. This was also the case before Corona, but before Corona there was simply a lot more traffic on our island.’

4)
Oliver Gaebe:

‘Do you have any tips for your customers on what motorcyclists can do this year who might also enjoy a bit of off-roading and haven’t been able or wanted to do so due to the hustle and bustle of the past?’

Johannes:

‘To be honest, there was never any hustle and bustle. You don’t meet anyone else in the area. Fantastic insights into long-abandoned paths, past ruins and idyllic country houses, we thread our way, sometimes crouched, skilfully through urban landscapes. The plants grow so intensively here on the island that some paths are unrecognisable after a year. Travelling by motorbike in this way is a special experience in every respect. Pure adventure is guaranteed, if desired with level-headed, professional tour guides and instructors.’

5)
Oliver Gaebe:

‘What kind of motorbikes will you be releasing for hire soon, are you also planning to offer electric motorbike hire? What visions do you have for 2021 for your company?’

Johannes:

‘Electric motorbikes are not yet an issue… We lack sustainability here, the batteries only have a very limited lifespan. Vehicles and batteries are also prohibitively expensive. Also, the overexploitation of people and nature in battery production as a whole means that electric motorbikes are not yet a real alternative.

In 2021, we wish you all, indeed all of humanity and animals, health and peace … an end to corona or at least a positive response to this extraordinary challenge.’

Oliver Gaebe:

‘Thank you, Johannes, for the interview and good luck for the future and the …
