LONDON, England – Turkey has been tipped by price comparison website, dealchecker.co.uk, as one of the best destinations for affordable half-term holidays. Recent figures from the Turkish Statistical Institute have shown that foreign visitors tend to stay 9 nights in the country and spend on average only $62.38 per day, making Turkey an extremely affordable option for family holidays. This is particularly true in the autumn, as the exodus of summer crowds drives prices down.
Half-term visitors to Turkey won’t have to compromise on weather to find great deals. The country’s 994 miles of stunning Mediterranean coast enjoy a temperate climate which keeps the sunshine strong well into the autumn months, with average October high temperatures of around 25C. Tourists can enjoy the best of Turkey’s weather in the beautiful south and west, near the historic coastal city of Antalya.
Turkey’s popularity has boomed in recent years as tourists discover its great value as a holiday destination; international arrivals grew by nine per cent over the last year, and the UN World Travel Organization named it as the world’s sixth most popular tourist destination in 2011. The country’s tourist infrastructure has grown as well, increasing by 67 per cent in the last ten years, and by 2015 Turkey’s hotels will offer 370,000 rooms for a wide variety of budgets.
Mark Attwell, MD of dealchecker.co.uk, commented: “Half-term holidays need to be chosen carefully – just because a destination enjoys a hot summer climate, it doesn’t mean the autumn weather will be suited to a beach holiday. Turkey is one of the most reliable bets for autumn sun, especially around the south coast, so it should be a top destination for October holidaymakers.”
Attwell continued: “Few tourist hot spots are developing as quickly as Turkey, both in terms of quality and quantity.
Increasing competition means the country’s hotels offer extremely affordable rooms with modern comforts. Combined with the beauty of the surroundings and a wealth of historical attractions, it’s easy to see why Turkey is one of the best destinations for half-term holiday deals.”
